After securing a series win against the West Indies on Sunday, the Indian Cricket Team will play 3 T20s against Sri Lanka and 3 ODIs against Australia in the new year at home.
The squad for these series was announced by the BCCI on Monday. The series will be played from 5th January to 9th January against Sri Lanka and January 14th to January 19th against Australia. Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan make their return into the Indian squad after being out from the team recovering from injuries.
The lanky pacer was missing from action since India’s tour to West Indies in 2019. While Shikhar Dhawan got 25 stiches on his wounded knee and has returned to the squad.
After having a very successful year and finishing at the top of the ODI run getters in 2019, Rohit Sharma is rested for the T20s against Sri Lanka. The explosive opening batsman has played in all formats of the game since the World Cup 2019 without any rest.
The in-form pace bowler Mohmmad Shami is also rested for the Sri-Lanka T20i series. The duo though will return for the ODI series against Australia.
Virat Kohli will first lead the squad in the new year against Sri Lanka starting on 5th January in Guwahati and then for the ODI series against Australia.
